Managing Housework on a Busy Schedule: Time-Saving Secrets

Balancing a demanding schedule with household chores can feel overwhelming, but with a little organisation, it’s absolutely possible to stay on top of things. Here’s how to manage your time and keep your home in order while navigating a busy life.

Step 1: Make a Comprehensive List

Begin by thinking of every single job that needs to be done in the house, no matter how big or small. Go room by room and write down all the tasks. This way, nothing gets overlooked. From cleaning the windows to dusting the shelves, every job has a place on the list.

Step 2: Create a Weekly Checklist

Alongside your comprehensive list, create a weekly checklist with days of the week and checkboxes for each task. This helps you allocate tasks throughout the week without feeling overwhelmed. At the end of each day, tick off the tasks you've completed. We know that your mega busy so, to take the stress off, why not download and print our handy checklist that’s ready to use at the end of this post.

Step 3: Spot Patterns and Adjust

As you track your progress, you'll start to notice trends in your week. Some days you might have more time and energy, while other days you might be busier. Use these insights to adjust your schedule. For busier days, focus on more nurturing tasks like preparing a healthy meal or indulging in self-care.

The Magic of Ticking Off Tasks

Let’s talk about why ticking things off a list is so soothing. It’s not just you—many people find it incredibly satisfying. Here’s why:

1. Sense of Accomplishment: Each tick mark is a small victory, giving a tangible sense of achievement and progress.

2. Visual Progress: Seeing tasks get ticked off provides visual proof of your hard work, which can be very motivating.

3. Reduced Stress: A structured list can reduce the mental clutter, making it easier to focus on one task at a time. Completing tasks and ticking them off can create a sense of order and control, reducing stress.

4. Less Overwhelm: When you tick something off your list, you can put it out of your mind. This helps you feel less overwhelmed because you're not constantly thinking about what still needs to be done.

In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to lose sight of just how much we accomplish because we are constantly bogged down with what feels like a never-ending to-do list. Remember to take a moment to acknowledge your efforts.

Pro Tip: Transform Planning into a Mindful Exercise

One of my favourite strategies to make planning less stressful and more serene is to get out my favourite stationery and make my list colourful and creative. This combined practical planning session and creative journaling practice turns into something akin to bullet journaling with a purpose. This way, you're more likely to stick to your plans throughout the week.

By following these steps, you'll find it easier to juggle your housework and any other commitments you might have. Plus, the satisfaction of ticking off completed tasks can make the whole process much more enjoyable.

Don't forget... It's ok to delegate so find your voice and don't be afraid to distribute tasks to others in your house too. After all, many hands do make light work.
