My Workday Morning Routine – How I Start My Day Stress-Free

There’s something truly magical about setting aside an hour of “me time” before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. My morning routine has become a cherished ritual that helps me start my day with calm and positivity, and I’m delighted to share it with you in hopes that it will inspire you to carve out some well needed time for yourself and begin your own stress free morning routine.

Every morning, before anyone else is awake, I give myself a full hour dedicated solely to myself.


I begin my mornings at 06:00 by brewing a comforting cup of coffee and tending to my beloved pets, Jasper and Bella. With coffee in hand, I return to my cosy bed to avoid the distraction of household chores, open the curtains, and let the gentle morning light flood the room. Starting the day in such a calm and mindful way helps set a positive tone for the rest of the day, reducing feelings of stress and enhancing my overall sense of wellbeing. This quiet, reflective time allows me to center myself, fostering a sense of inner peace and balance that sets me up and carries through the day.


To create a serene atmosphere, I play some relaxing morning music, often choosing frequency-based tunes that soothe my mind and set a tranquil tone for the day. This calming music helps to reduce stress and anxiety, allowing me to enter a peaceful state and stop my mind from wandering. This is my time.


I then take a few moments for morning journaling, starting by writing down three empowering things to remember for the day. This practice boosts my motivation and sets positive intentions, helping me stay in control, focused, and confident throughout the day. When I start to feel overwhelmed or as if things are getting on top of me, I refer to these reminders to help ground myself.

 

Setting intentions for the day can significantly boost your mood and enhance your sense of control. It acts as a gentle guide, steering you through the day with purpose and clarity.

Stick to only three—it’s much less overwhelming when you have just a few tasks to tackle, and it’s easier to motivate yourself to quickly complete them, helping you stay on top of things. These can be three tasks around the house or a mix of housework and self-care elements—whatever will make you feel satisfied and accomplished by the end of the day.

Starting the day with something you love is a surefire way to get a serious serotonin boost. It helps you enjoy the happiness and sense of accomplishment from making progress on a project or activity you cherish. Whether it's picking up a craft, doing a colouring page, or even popping on a face mask and indulging in some meditation, these activities can clear your mind and focus you for the day ahead.

 

To ensure I don’t lose track of time, I set an alarm on my phone to remind me when it’s time to get dressed and ready for the day. This way, I can fully immerse myself in the present moment and enjoy it without worrying about the clock.


When it’s time to get ready to start my day, I make sure to have everything laid out the night before. This helps me maintain the zen space I've created for myself and eliminates the stress of deciding on clothes and appearance in the morning. Having everything organized makes me feel more prepared and confident to tackle the day ahead.


At around 7:30, I get ready for my day, ensuring I take time for my skincare routine and any morning self-care I need to feel good. My skincare ritual is another delightful part of my morning. The lovely scents of the products make me feel awake and refreshed, ready to embrace the day ahead. This self-care practice boosts my mood and helps me start the day feeling pampered and rejuvenated. Who doesn’t want to start their morning with a little self-love, right?


At 8:00, I am ready to start my day! I have my bag prepared and ready to grab in the morning, with everything I need for the day. I make a travel coffee for my commute, ensuring I have a comforting drink to enjoy while I travel. I always have a playlist or an audiobook ready for the car, so I can enjoy my drive. This helps me stay relaxed and stress-free during the commute, as I have my coffee and something enjoyable to listen to. I use this time as an extended moment to transition from my morning zen state into a business mindset, allowing me to focus and be ready for my job.


Turning small moments into enjoyable rituals can truly transform your day. These little practices not only make a difference in how you feel but also in how you approach your day. Embracing these rituals helps you cultivate a sense of joy and mindfulness, making each day more fulfilling and balanced.


The Importance of Morning Me Time

Starting your day stress-free and with intention can have a profound impact on your overall well-being and mental health. By dedicating this time to yourself, you set a positive tone for your entire day, empowering yourself to handle whatever comes your way with grace and positivity. After just a week of following this routine, you’ll likely notice a significant improvement in your mood, energy levels, and productivity.


There are moments when I’m tempted to do household chores like laundry while making my morning coffee to get a 'head start.' However, I remind myself that this hour is sacred 'me time'. It has taken a huge effort and commitment to carve out this precious time for myself, and I resist the urge to focus on anything else. This time is vital for my well-being and mental health, and I actually look forward to it every day. I encourage everyone to embrace a morning routine that is right for them.


By ending the days of jumping out of bed feeling tired, groggy, and rushed, and switching to a relaxing, intentional morning, you take control of how you set up your thoughts and feelings for the day.
